Mexico’s Sinaloa Governor Is Indicted in US on Drug Charges (3)

The governor of the Mexican state of Sinaloa was accused by US prosecutors of conspiring with drug cartels, escalating tension between the two countries over the fight against organized crime.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan announced the unsealing of an indictment Wednesday charging the governor, Ruben Rocha Moya, 76, and nine other current and former officials with a variety of crimes. They say leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel helped get Rocha Moya elected by kidnapping and intimidating his rivals, in exchange for his promise to protect them while they distributed drugs into the US.
