Delaware Justice Karen Valihura Will Step Down in July

The Delaware Supreme Court will add a new GOP member when Justice Karen L. Valihura steps down this summer.

Valihura announced Monday that she won’t seek a second 12-year appointment when her current term expires in late July. Her replacement must be a Republican—appointed by Gov. Matt Meyer (D) and confirmed by Delaware’s overwhelmingly Democratic senate—thanks to a clause in the state constitution mandating a rough partisan balance.
