California Senate Approves Limits on AI-Generated Sexual Content

Developers of artificial intelligence chatbots would have to take steps to ensure children can’t access sexually explicit material under legislation advanced by the California Senate on Monday.

The measure (SB 300), passed on a 38-0 vote, expands on a law Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed last year that requires companion chatbot platforms to take certain safety measures for users who are known to be minors.

The new bill would go further, prohibiting such platforms from producing or facilitating the exchange of sexually explicit material for children.
