3M Tells Supreme Court State PFAS Cases Belong in Federal Court

The US Supreme Court should deny as inappropriate and untimely Maryland’s and South Carolina’s request to review an appeals court’s ruling that their PFAS-related complaints belong in federal court, the 3M Co. contends.

The states asked justices to review the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit’s 2025 ruling vacating two lower courts’ opinions that each case belonged in state, not federal, court. The two cases claimed 3M violated state laws by causing widespread per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) contamination while producing those chemicals for consumer and commercial products. ...
