Wisconsin Gov. Evers Vetoes Permit-Free Work for Younger Teens

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) vetoed a bill that would eliminate youth work permit requirements for 14- and 15-year-olds, ending state lawmakers’ latest effort to relax child labor restrictions.

Evers rejected the measure (SB 436) after previously urging the Republican-majority state legislature to find other ways to fix the state’s workforce shortage without “asking more kids to work.”

The bill’s supporters in the legislature said it would eliminate government red tape that interferes with teens’ and their parents’ decision to gain work experience before finishing high school.
