Sheinbaum Sends 40-Hours Work Week Bill, Raises Minimum Wage (1)

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government will send a bill to Congress to reduce weekly work hours to 40 from 48, a move negotiated with Mexico’s private sector.

  • Mexico Labour Minister Marath Bolanos said in a press conference on Wed. that weekly work hours will be reduced gradually until reaching 40 hours in 2030
    • The move will not mean a reduction in worker’s salaries or labor benefits
    • 13.4 million people will benefit from work hour reduction
  • The bill will be sent to the Senate on Wednesday, Sheinbaum said
