Ex-Sidley Austin Partner Sues MetLife Over Disability Pay (1)

A former Sidley Austin LLP partner sued Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for wrongfully denying her disability benefits after she became disabled from Covid-19, claiming the insurer violated federal employee benefit law.

Tracy Williams, who was an equity partner at the law firm in Chicago, alleges MetLife improperly rejected her claim despite medical evidence supporting her disability, according to her complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Williams alleges she became disabled in January 2022 after contracting Covid-19, which reduced her work capacity and earnings by more than 20% starting in January 2023.
