California Moves Closer to Employee Leave for ‘Chosen Family’

Californians could take time off to care for a designated “chosen” family member as well as biological kin under a bill sent Thursday to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks’ (D) measure (A.B. 1041) won final passage on an Assembly vote of 48-11. On Wednesday, the state Senate passed it 31-7.
