A Massachusetts initiative to deem Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. drivers independent contractors may appear on the 2024 ballot, the state Supreme Judicial Court said Thursday.
The court also signed off on a separate ballot measure that would grant Uber and Lyft drivers collective bargaining rights.
Attorney General Andrea Campbell (D)'s “certifications and summaries comply with the requirements” of the state’s constitution, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled. Both rideshare-related ballot measures meet the state’s bar for sending a question to voters: initiatives must contain “only subjects that are related or mutually dependent.”
