Nidec First-Half Profit Slumps as Accounting Turmoil Deepens (1)

Nidec Corp.’s first-half operating income slid 83%, hurt by writedowns as it deals with an accounting crisis that threatens a linchpin of Japan’s industrial and automotive sectors.

Results at the world’s largest manufacturer of precision motors had been delayed due to an inability by the company to fully assess its earnings after it uncovered a number of cases of suspected accounting irregularities. Internal and external investigations into a number of potential accounting issues are ongoing, including a probe into possible senior management’s involvement.
