New Jersey Weighs Permanently Easing In-Office Tax Break Rules

New Jersey lawmakers advanced a bill Monday that would make it easier for companies to continue qualifying for tax breaks, even if their employees work remotely part-time.

Certain tax incentives created before the Covid-19 pandemic required full-time employees to spend at least 80% of their time at their workplace, but the state reduced those obligations beginning in 2020, when many people began working remotely. With some of those concessions set to expire later this month, the Assembly’s State and Local Government Committee unanimously moved forward a bill that would permanently relax in-office requirements for many tax incentives.
