Puerto Rico Tax Opinion Gets Wyden’s Ire

The top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee called for an IRS probe into tax planning advice from two of the largest global law firms that allowed high-net-worth clients to skirt more than $100 million in federal taxes by claiming Puerto Rican residency.

Finance ranking member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) called on the IRS’s chief of tax compliance Jarod Koopman, to probe the accuracy and appropriateness of tax opinions written by two Miami partners of Winston & Strawn LLP.
