US Tax Filing Season to Start on Time on January 26

Tax filing season in the US will begin Jan. 26, the IRS said Thursday, starting on time after a year of turmoil with an exodus of workers and a government shutdown.

A timely start is a positive early sign, though another funding lapse remains a threat as the agency’s current budget expires Jan. 30—a few days into the season. Taxpayers will have until April 15 to file.

Pressure is high for the filing season to go smoothly too, especially with the Trump administration’s volatile changes at the agency and added challenge of implementing the 2025 tax-and-spending law. ...
