Tusk Ramps Up Rhetoric, Unveils Tax Cut Before Polish Election

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his government are rallying behind their presidential candidate with a media blitz and policy tweaks aimed at shoring up support for Rafal Trzaskowski ahead of a close runoff vote.

Tusk is ratcheting up his rhetoric, saying that Poland’s democratic order hinges on the result of the June 1 ballot, in a bid to mobilize his moderate, pro-European Union voters. The government on Friday also unveiled plans to reduce copper taxes, a key issue for a southwestern region where such mines are one of the province’s economic lifelines.
