An Oregon property owner’s lawyer received a warning against using AI after the state tax court pointed out he cited nonexistent precedent when appealing a disqualification from a farm-use special assessment.
Holding Tuesday that the property owner—a family trust—filed its appeal of the July 2024 disqualification well beyond the 90-day statutory deadline, the Oregon Tax Court suggested that use of generative AI likely produced the fabricated case in the trust’s briefing.
