Judge Extends Shutdown Layoff Hold
A federal judge blocked the Trump administration from laying off more federal workers during the government shutdown, building on a pause of the cuts put in place earlier this month.
Judge Susan Illston of the US District Court for the Northern District of California granted unions’ request for a preliminary injunction. That move comes after she previously issued a temporary restraining order that covered workers represented by eight unions, including the National Treasury Employees Union that represents many IRS workers.
