Temporary Chile Tax Amnesty Undershoots Revenue Target

Jan. 8, 2025, 3:53 PM UTC

A tax amnesty for Chilean taxpayers to regularize undeclared assets brought in only around 15% of projected revenue in 2024, though other temporary taxes made up the shortfall in receipts.

Under the amnesty, taxpayers could pay a flat 12% rate on undeclared assets. Almost 600 declarations were made, bringing in $92 million, 15.6% of the forecast, Servicing de Impuestos Internos said in a release Tuesday.

“These taxes, in contrast to increases in rates or tax bases, can only offer uncertain revenue because they depend on the will of taxpayers to take part,” it added.
