Shutdown Moves Closer to an End
A group of moderate Democrats joined Republicans late Sunday to take a procedural step toward advancing spending legislation ending the longest government shutdown in US history.
Under the agreement, Congress would pass funding for the departments of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and Congress itself for the rest of the fiscal year, while funding other agencies—like the Treasury and the IRS— through Jan. 30.
