NYC Property Tax Fix Bill Set for April as Court Case Looms (1)

Legislation to reform New York City’s much-criticized property tax system probably won’t be ready until April, later than officials said earlier this year. That risks the unwelcome prospect of a court-mandated solution, said the state lawmaker who will carry the city’s bill in Albany.

Sen. Luis Sepúlveda said city officials should move faster to draft their plan as a lawsuit challenging the property tax code winds its way through a state trial court. Otherwise, the state Supreme Court might mandate an overhaul of the system before the city’s fix is ready, he warned.
