President Donald Trump’s long-running threat to take away what he’s called “massive tax breaks” enjoyed by billionaire sports team owners has spurred a lobbying blitz in recent years. Spending by the National Football League and Major League Baseball on tax and other legislative priorities hit a 10-year high in the first quarter of 2025, and they retained Trump-connected lobbyists to make their case.
