Netflix, Hulu Exempt From Fees Under Missouri Law, Court Says

Streaming and satellite TV companies were never subject to video service provider fees, as made clear by an amendment to state law, a Missouri court explained.

The legislature resolved ambiguities over what constitutes a video service provider, the order said. Such entities, like cable television companies, are subject to fees under the state’s Video Service Providers Act.

Companies including Netflix Inc. and DirecTV LLC won their challenge to the fees imposed by the city of Creve Coeur in October. The Dec. 30 opinion issued by the Missouri Circuit Court of St. Louis County explained that decision.
