Navy Veteran’s Retirement Pay Dispute Ends With No Tax Refund

A Navy Veteran isn’t entitled to a $16,100 tax refund request over amounts he claimed were erroneously and illegally collected by the IRS because he can’t claim an overpayment of tax, a federal judge said.

After retiring in February 2018, the Navy determined Jeremy Brink was eligible for $107,200 in separation pay, and he received a deposit of $75,100 from the Defense Finance Accounting Service with $32,100 was withheld for taxes.
