Kenyan business leaders say the nation’s taxation regime is unpredictable and inconsistent, adding a layer of risk for firms operating in the East African nation that saw dozens of protesters killed in anti-tax marches last year.

To increase revenue collection and widen its tax base as agreed under an International Monetary Fund financing program, President William Ruto’s administration has redoubled efforts to squeeze out more from businesses and individuals in the 2 1/2 years since coming to power.
