The IRS published a notice providing population figures that state and local housing credit agencies must use to calculate the 2026 calendar year population-based component of the state housing credit ceiling under I.R.C. §42(h)(3)(C)(ii), the volume cap under I.R.C. §146, and the volume limit under I.R.C. §142(k)(5). The notice uses the most recent Census Bureau population estimates released Jan. 27, 2026, for the 50 states, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and 2025 midyear figures from the Census International Data Base for territories.
