IRS Issues New Release Reminding Taxpayers to Request Filing Extensions by April 15

The IRS has issued a news release reminding taxpayers that they may request an extension to file their 2025 federal income tax return by Oct. 15, provided the request is submitted by April 15. The extension grants additional time to file but does not extend the deadline to pay taxes owed, which remain due April 15. Taxpayers may request an extension through IRS Free File, Free File Fillable Forms, by making an electronic payment and selecting “extension,” or by submitting Form 4868.
