White House Eyes Further Cuts to the IRS

President Donald Trump’s proposed a $1.4 billion cut in annual IRS funding for fiscal year 2027, signaling the administration’s intent to keep shrinking the agency.

The budget request of $11.5 billion for Treasury Department’s domestic programs for 2027 represents a $1.5 billion—or 12%—cut from the 2026 enacted level, leaving the IRS to shoulder nearly the entire reduction.
