IRS Considers Changes to Donor-Advised Fund Proposed Regulations

IRS officials are taking a closer look at a few contentious provisions in the proposed donor-advised fund regulations.

The agency is considering what is included in the definition of distributions and the proposed effective date of the rules, Amber MacKenzie, a Treasury Department attorney adviser, said Friday during an American Bar Association Tax Section conference in Washington.

Donor-advised funds are increasingly popular philanthropic tools. People receive an immediate tax exemption for their gift and leave assets in the fund indefinitely before detailing which charities would get their money.
