IRS Blocked From Sharing Tax Data for Immigration Enforcement

The IRS and Treasury Department are temporarily blocked from sharing taxpayer address information with immigration enforcement authorities because doing so likely violates a Tax Code privacy provision, a federal judge held.

Judge Indira Talwani of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Thursday granted a preliminary injunction motion from a host of immigrant support groups, halting information sharing between the IRS and the Homeland Security Department as well as its Immigration and Customs Enforcement subagency.
