Conservatives Seek Concessions From Shutdown
Anti-tax conservative interest groups, including those funded by the billionaire Charles Koch, are pushing the GOP to extract more from Democrats in exchange for any concessions related to the expiring health-care subsidies at the center of the minority party’s demands. As many as 22 million Americans could see health-care premium spikes without congressional action by the end of the year.
Republicans for years sought to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health law, but the policies are now firmly embedded into the health-care system and the subsidies at issue are used widely in GOP districts.
