European finance ministers will pause talks on a bill that would revise the way the bloc would tax fuel and electricity after failing to allay outstanding concerns.

“We’ll have to conclude it’s difficult to see a way forward for this file,” said Danish Economy Minister Stephanie Lose after a public debate among the ministers Thursday.

Denmark, which is currently responsible for shepherding EU bills through the legislative process, won’t push further to get the bill known as the Energy Taxation Directive approved before the end of the year, Lose confirmed in a press conference.
