IRS Starts Fleshing Out “Trump Accounts”

The Trump administration is starting to provide more details about how families can sign up for the tax-advantaged “Trump accounts” for children created in the GOP’s tax-and-spending law.

The IRS released guidance Tuesday that gives some information about how the accounts will work and announces forthcoming proposed regulations.

Those interested in opening accounts can fill out an IRS form, or use an online portal expected to be available in mid-2026. After parents and guardians opt-in, the Treasury will send taxpayers information starting in May about authenticating the accounts. Read More
