Democrats Unveil Tax Cut Proposal

Several prominent Democrats rolled out a proposal Thursday to cut taxes for middle-class taxpayers while raising them for high earners, as lawmakers in the party seek to test economic policy ideas ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

The bill—unveiled by Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), and Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.)—would allow individuals making less than $46,000 to not owe any federal income taxes, and also would provide a tax cut for taxpayers with incomes slightly above that threshold.
