Brazil Politics: Haddad Agrees on Need to Alter Tax Plan

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said Monday that he agreed with Congress on the need to make some changes to the government’s plan to tax certain financial transactions but will not give up on the goals of the proposal.

A decision on possible changes should be made before President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva travels on Wednesday, Haddad told reporters in Brasilia. The decision to make alterations was taken after talks with lower House Speaker Hugo Motta and Senate chief Davi Alcolumbre, he said.
