The prospect for a retail marijuana market next year in Virginia is in Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s hands after lawmakers’ final approval of a bill legalizing sales with tax rates that could amount to 11.625%. The Republican governor hasn’t said whether he will sign it.
An amended version of HB 698, a measure negotiated this month to start retail marijuana sales on May 1, 2025, passed the Senate 21-18 Wednesday, with the House then concurring with the Senate’s changes in a 51-47 vote.
