Panel to Consider Tax Return Scanning Bill

The House Ways and Means Committee Wednesday is set to consider a bipartisan bill aimed at speeding up the IRS’s ability to process paper tax returns.

The proposal, backed by Reps. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) and Rudy Yakym (R-Ind.), would require electronically prepared paper tax returns to include a barcode that can be used to convert the filing to an electronic format.
