The Philippine Senate July 8 accepted for consideration Senate Bill No. 267, to increase the annual individual income tax exemption ceiling and adjust tax brackets. The bill includes measures to: 1) increase the individual income tax exemption ceiling to 480,000 Philippine pesos (US$8,283) annually, from 250,000 pesos (US$4,314); 2) update the tax brackets to reflect the new exemption threshold and adjust rates; and 3) amend the option for the 8 percent tax rate, offered in lieu of graduated income tax rates and the percentage tax, to apply to gross income exceeding 480,000 pesos, increased from 250,000 pesos, for professionals with ...
