Norway will completely phase out the value added tax exemption for electric cars from 2027, according to budget documents published by the government Wednesday.
- The government proposes cutting the threshold for the VAT exemption to NOK300,000, from NOK500,000 starting next year
- The change will include cars that have been ordered and are due to be delivered in 2026
- Also proposes increasing the one-time tax on fossil fuel vehicles
- “Overall, the proposal means that the incentives to buy zero-emission cars are maintained even if subsidies are reduced,” the government says
