Insurance giant Nationwide has prevailed in an appraisal dispute with the city of Des Moines, Iowa, over its headquarters properties, because the county review board didn’t meet its burden in proving the higher valuations, an Iowa appeals court found.
Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. owned two properties at 1100 and 1200 Locust Street in Des Moines, which it used as its headquarters. In 2006, the company entered into an agreement with the City Council to receive economic incentives for establishing a minimum assessed value for the properties.
