McGriddle Maker Keeps Kentucky Packaging Machinery Tax Break

A TreeHouse Foods Inc. subsidiary that makes McGriddles and other frozen bakery products is entitled to a favorable property tax rate on machinery it uses to package its goods, the Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled Friday.

Placing boxed items on pallets, enclosing the pallets in shrink wrap, and labeling them to comply with federal food traceability guidelines is all part of the exempt manufacturing process, the court said in an in an unpublished opinion. “The test is not whether the process ends when the product can be eaten, but when the product is ready for sale,” Judge Glenn E. ...
