Maryland Digital Ad Tax Fight Extended With Discovery, Witnesses

The legal battle over Maryland’s first-in-the-nation digital advertising tax will take much longer to resolve than previously expected, after the Maryland Tax Court directed the parties to seek input from expert witnesses and engage in a lengthy discovery process.

The court issued a scheduling order that includes six months of discovery followed by a series of evidentiary hearings starting July 21 for the four tech and media companies challenging the tax, including Apple Inc., Google LLC, Meta Platforms Inc., and Peacock TV LLC.
