Malaysia to Consider Goods Tax If Minimum Wage Rises: Bernama

The government will only implement a broad-based goods and services tax in a few years if the minimum monthly wage increases to the 3,000-4,000 ringgit level, Bernama reported, citing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

  • The poor should not be burdened with such a tax system, Anwar said at an event on Sunday, according to Bernama
    • “We can adjust the policy” after ensuring the minimum income reaches that level, he said
  • NOTE: The current minimum monthly income is 1,500 ringgit
