Louisiana Justices Unwind New Orleans Museum’s Partial Tax Break

A Louisiana appeals court must take another look at a long-running dispute over whether a hotel’s close connection to the National World War II Museum entitles it to tax-exempt status, the state supreme court ruled Tuesday.

The appeals court ruled in February that the museum is entitled to a partial exemption from personal property and real property taxes as a nonprofit entity. The parties had made black-and-white arguments: the museum argued that a full exemption is appropriate, while Orleans Parish Assessor Erroll Williams argued for no exemption.
