GOP-backed legislation that would collapse Kansas’ graduated income tax into a flat rate of 5.25% is headed to the desk of Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, despite the governor’s vow to veto any single-rate system.
By a vote of 81-37, the House approved an omnibus tax bill, HB 2284, Thursday that backers say would put $1.6 billion into the pockets of Kansas taxpayers over three years. The bill passed the Senate 24-11 on Wednesday.
