Illinois DOR Issues Information on Free Individual Income Tax Preparation for Elderly, Low-Income Families

The Illinois Department of Revenue (DOR) Feb. 11 issued information on free individual income tax preparation for elderly and low-income families. The DOR provides that: 1) the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Tax Counseling for the Elderly, and American Association of Retired Persons Tax-Aide programs offer free tax help to elderly and low-income families who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns; 2) IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals; and 3) free tax preparation sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations ...
