Georgia Republicans outlined a plan to eliminate the state’s 5.19% personal income tax for about two-thirds of filers beginning in 2027.
The proposal, approved by a tax policy committee convened last year by Lt. Gov. Burt Jones (R), calls for legislation to make the first $50,000 of income for individual filers tax-free. Married couples filing jointly would pay no state income tax on their first $100,000 of income.
Georgia would join Kentucky, Mississippi, and Oklahoma in states legislating the end of their personal income tax.
