Digital Ad, Millionaire Tax Bills May Return in California

California lawmakers may revisit attempts to tax social media advertisements and raise personal income tax on millionaires in the next legislative session, senior legislative staffers said Thursday.

David Ruff, chief consultant for the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation, was among those previewing the next session, which starts in January, at the California All-Tax Conference in San Diego. He said some of the assembly’s more ambitious and controversial measures could be brought up again.

Among them are A.B. 796, which would have created a tax on social media platforms’ annual gross receipts from social media advertisements ...
