DC Retirement Board Whistleblower Retaliation Suit Moves Forward

The former top lawyer with the District of Columbia Retirement Board can proceed with her retaliation lawsuit alleging she’d been fired after reporting the group mismanaged its more than $10 billion pension fund, a federal judge ruled.

Fired board general counsel Erie Sampson “plausibly alleges” she provided information relating to a securities law violation, and that her whistleblowing spurred the group to fire her, said Judge Timothy J. Kelly Aug. 29 in an opinion for the US District Court for the District of Columbia, denying the board’s dismissal motion.
