States generated more than $4 billion in cannabis tax revenue from adult-use sales last year, the highest annual revenue recorded from the sector, according to an industry report.
Since legalized recreational cannabis sales began in the US a decade ago, states have collected over $20 billion from excise and sales taxes on the products, the Marijuana Policy Project said in a report released Wednesday, which provides data through the first quarter of 2024.
Figures don’t include medical marijuana tax revenue.
