California FTB Issues Information on Income Tax Debt Relief for Innocent Joint Filers, Injured Spouses

The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) June 22 issued information on individual income tax debt relief for innocent joint filers and injured spouses. California doesn’t have an injured spouse law because a tax refund issued to both spouses filing a joint return is community property, which can be used to pay the debts of either spouse. Both taxpayers must pay taxes, penalties, and interest when filing a joint tax return.
