Apple Files in Maryland Tax Court to Protest Digital Ad Tax

Apple Inc. is the first tech company to run to the Maryland Tax Court demanding a refund for taxes it paid under the state’s one-of-a-kind digital advertising tax.

In its petition of appeal, Apple asked the tax court for a declaratory judgment finding Maryland’s Digital Advertising Gross Revenues Tax to be unconstitutional. The tech giant also asked for a full refund of estimated taxes paid during 2022, plus interest. The dollar amounts of Apple’s tax payments were removed from documents released by the court Monday.
